Hi! I’m Allison and I am the Executive Director of Pets Alive Spay/Neuter Clinic in Bloomington, Indiana. I like to think of us as Bloomington’s best kept secret because folks may have heard of Pets Alive, but many don’t know our impact.

At our location on South Walnut Street, we employ a full staff of hardworking individuals who will perform over 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries this year. Why is this important? Every year, millions of healthy dogs and cats in the United States are euthanized simply because there aren’t enough homes to go around. Fewer animals born means there is less burden on our shelter and the corresponding taxpayers. Also, it is estimated that there are 40,000,000 feral cats in the US with only 2% being “fixed.” By sterilizing and vaccinating these community cats and returning them to their outdoor homes, we limit their population and increase their odds of herd immunity.

In addition to surgeries, we pride ourselves on our ability to help our community members keep their furry companions healthy with basic vaccines, heartworm testing and preventatives, flea and tick medications, microchipping, and simple wellness care.

As you can imagine, our work is very satisfying. It is also very challenging and expensive. To perform the work we do requires skilled, highly trained personnel. It means having the surgical equipment and space to accommodate the surgeries and recovery. It also means acquiring large quantities of the supplies necessary for surgery and wellness. Because we offer our services at a discount does not mean our quality is discounted. In fact, we believe so strongly in our mission to provide the compassionate solution to end the unnecessary euthanasia of cats and dogs by offering affordable, high-quality spay/neuter services that we offer many services at less than our cost just to continue our efforts in this fight against pet overpopulation.

Now, just think, a cat can have 2 to 3 litters a year with 6 to 8 kittens per litter.

Can you see the impact we make with “fixing” just one cat?

Where do we go from here? We continue onward, together, until pet overpopulation is a relic of the past. Our days are packed full; the critical need for affordable, accessible, high-quality care for the furry family members in our community has never been more pressing.

How can YOU help?

It would be my honor if you would consider a year end gift either through our secure website or by check. Our operating costs are not covered by what we charge; we rely upon the generosity of our friends and supporters like you. Rising costs have affected all of us but our animal friends deserve the best we can give them.

There’s never been a better time to do what’s right, to heed the call. If you are interested in how we are excellent stewards of your funds, please reach out to me and we can schedule a tour of our facilities. You’ll be amazed at our work and our caring staff.

Finally, I want to thank you for being a part of our meaningful work. Spay/neuter saves lives! We are beyond grateful for our community and the work that we are lucky enough to do.

Have a wonderful holiday season and take good care!
